The three-story building of the chamber musical theater, located in the center of the city of Maykop, was built as the Friendship House of Culture in 1953 in the style of Stalinist neoclassicism. In 1987, a new part was added to the theater building: the building of the Nalmes concert hall with a thousand seats in the style of Soviet constructivism. The concert hall was named after the folk dance ensemble of the Republic of Adygea “Nalmes” (translated into Russian as “diamond”).
The first stage of reconstruction affected the historical part of the building: the chamber musical theater. The task was to preserve and restore all existing historical elements and decor, delicately add national notes to the new interior, and at the same time create a modern interior with the inclusion of modern elements such as light, sound, and engineering equipment.
New materials and elements were added to the classic image of the entrance halls: cladding with natural stone (three types of granite), columns made of marble chips, cast iron balusters, solid oak doors and parquet flooring made of local oak species. Ethnic motifs were also introduced into the interior: an Adyghe ornament in a stone rosette on the floor and illustrations from the history of the Nart heroic epic by the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Khamid Savkuev.
The accent and connecting element for the two parts of the building was the brand color of the Nalmes ensemble - red-scarlet.
Two symmetrical staircases are designed in monochrome with contrasting graphite elements: cast iron balusters.
The musical theater hall acquired a calmer and nobler color scheme, a transformed ceiling shape and new recreated decorative elements (gypsum stucco decoration).
